Gorgeous Georgia

January 18, 2011

When Kay Keyser introduced his new vocalist (and future wife) as Gorgeous Georgia he was not just whistling Dixie. The press picked up on the sobriquet, and Gorgeous Georgia she was. Although I never got a chance to meet Georgia in person, I had several lovely chats with her on the phone, and she was as lively and gracious at 90 as she was beautiful. Fellow former John Robert Powers model Susann Shaw said of Georgia “she was the most loveable, beautiful woman I had ever met, as lovely inside as she was out, which is saying something.”

I will always be happy to know that my products featuring Gorgeous Georgia (totes, above, and sticky notes) gave her pleasure. With typical humor she told me how much she enjoyed seeing her face continue to pop up here and there, and she just hoped she never made an unexpected appearance in an ad for Viagra.

Georgia Carroll Keyser died on January 14, 2011. The world was a better place for the ninety years she spent with us.

But as predictions of the impending blizzard became ever more dire I started to panic, and my powers of reasoning became impaired. I figured that if I could get out of Maine and to New York before the snow started, then getting to New Mexico from New York would be a walk in the park. I was mistaken.
