Enter Turquoise
In 2006 a friend of a friend put me in touch with Turquoise Taylor Grant. I had been writing captions for ladies from the 40s and 50s for twenty-one years, and I thought a little help might be in order. Enter Turquoise. She sent me such hilariously quirky and spot-on captions that I started wondering “who is this crazy woman?!?” I hypothesized, based on the name “Turquoise”, that she might be an aging hippie. My daughter said no, Turquoise was an Amazon high-priestess. I finally decided to stop guessing and ask Turquoise to send me a picture and tell me a little about herself. Definitely not an aging hippie:
This is what Turquoise had to say about her work:
I write satire, and humor, and am shopping around a book of essays (still in the “rejection” stage–very rewarding). I have a couple of short pieces up on happywomanmagazine.com—The Beauty of Balance is one. I’ve also written a lot of corporate copy, for example, about the fascinating world of automatic check cashing machines.
Turquoise lives on a boat outside Los Angeles and actually sails in regattas. Interesting woman.
What Was She Thinking?
Men are not inherently annoying.
They are, however, annoying to live with. At least occasionally.
The day I came across this happy housewife I had been mulling over possible solutions to a small domestic dispute of my own.
I saw the answer in this woman’s eyes…
Well, I thought it was funny…
Occasionally I release a design that I think is absolutely hilarious… but apparently no one else agrees.
This design says just about everything about the four years I kept house in lovely Greene, ME.
