Ahh July…that melting time of year. This spring, as Brooklyn temperatures soared into the 90s well before the first official day of summer, we started wondering what the official start of frozen drinks season ought to be. A quick Google search later, we found out that, shockingly, there is NO official “Frozen Drinks Month” in this country!
As devoted employees of Anne Taintor, Inc. we just couldn’t let that omission persist for even one more summer: we have un-officially declared that henceforth July will be “Frozen Drinks Month” and we plan to celebrate in style. We’re ringing in this festive month with a favorite recipe from Anne’s cocktail book “I’m so happy it’s happy hour” – the Pina Colada. In the spirit of celebration we’ll also be giving away 50 free packages of our most summery coasters in random orders placed on our website throughout the month – enjoy!
Anne Says: “Who has not, when in a festive mood, put an umbrella in her martini? But the very best drink in which to put an umbrella is the classic pina colada.” If you’re short on paper umbrellas, you can make do with coasters, flasks or magnetic postcards with this caption.
- 2 oz light rum
- 2 oz cream of coconut
- 1 oz coconut milk
- 1 oz pineapple juice
- 1/8 cup chopped pineapple
- 1 ½ cups crushed ice
- Pineapple wedge for garnish
Mix the liquid ingredients and the chopped pineapple in a blender with the crushed ice at high speed until smooth. Pour into a hurricane glass. Garnish with a pineapple wedge…and an umbrella.
Please have a great holiday this week and remember to enjoy Frozen Drinks Month responsibly!
